News from Jim:

It's been a strange and beautiful summer for me. I've been living in Jamaica Plain for a year now, and I'm steps from The Arnold Arboretum. I've been taking walks in there in the morning, noticing the changes in the trees, feeling the rush of oxigen, looking for creatures and critters. I keep looking for a window in which I can escape to Vermont or Maine, but something seems to be happening each week that demands my presence here in Boston. I have a favorite new cafe on South Street called The Viza. The cortado there is not a traditional cortado, but it is really delicious.

Solo In Isolation & Patreon news:

I continue to play my Solo In Isolation show on Patreon almost every other week. I just did one, but had trouble streaming it and when I finally established the right stream, I forgot to make it available for free members, so I posted the recording for free members. You can watch it here. My Patreon account is a great place to support my work, and have access to a collection of everything I create from my podcast with Lionel, to my songs-a-week, to Solo In Isolation, to ebooks I've written, and previews of new chapters as I write them.

Song A Week & new album news:

I wrote my last song-a-week for a little while, bringing the count to 51. These songs come in waves of a dozen or so, and I want to take time off from this schedule to record 15 to 20 songs at Notable Productions, solo with a little accompaniment in a new 4 or 5 segment album I am tentatively calling Below Tech, harkonning back to a cassette I made in Charlestown in 1989 called Lo-Tech, back when I was a street musician. I will let you know when it's available. I think it will be a digital-only release.

I'm just about sold out of last year's CD Assemble Yourself, and am not sure I will do another pressing. I did call this last one "limited." If you have been waiting to get your copy, you should move on that now.

Podcast news:

Lionel and I are taking a little sebatical for the month of August before starting Season 7 of ‘funny,’ not funny with Jim and Lionel in September. We have 191 episodes now you can listen to, including interviews with Dar Williams, Ellis Paul, Vance Gilbert, Don White, Chris Chandler, Dr. William Hanage, Liz Linder, Hewitt Huntwork, and many others. I think these are fun to listen to on a drive or when you are bored or doing chores. Check it out if you haven't and subscribe.

Wakeful Wanderer news:

The final book in the Wakeful Wanderer’s Guide trilogy is getting close to completion now. Winding things up has been really difficult, but I keep writing chapters I love. I will release the audio book for book 1 shortly. I promise. I plan to release it on Audible, but also in Bandcamp as an "album" of mp3s.

Songwriting coaching at Songmining:

I've been coaching songwriting lately, in person and over Zoom or Google Meet. This has been really interesting and started when I was a guest songwriting coach at Dar's retreat. For me, songwriting is an exploration of the stories we tell ourselves, and although I am not a therapist, I believe it does have some theraputic benefits for songwriters and non-songwriters alike. I have a website with some information at Songmining.com.

Meditation:

Finally, I am one of a group of meditation teachers that lead online meditation at MindfulAware.com. We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9am Eastern TIme, and every other Wednesday at 7pm.
